Louisville’s Street Railways—Their Cars and Growth

  • Friday, April 26, 2019
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • University Center: Loop River Room 525 S. State Street, Chicago, IL

April's Program: For almost 80 years the streetcars of Louisville were part of both the growth of the city of the everyday lives of its citizens. Martin Biemer will recount the story of this extensive 5-foot gauge system, its routes, operations, and its large variety of equipment. We will witness the growth of the system from mule cars all the way to the modern PCCs, which arrived on the property but never ran. Streetcars held on until 1948 when the last line was converted to bus, appropriately enough, on Derby Day. It will all be brought back to life for one night, so be sure to climb on and join us for the ride!

The Loop River Room is located on the second floor. After entering the lobby, go through the glass doors on your left for stair and elevator access to the area. Doors open at 6 p.m.
