Milwaukee Traction in the 1950s

Presented by Ken Spengler

Friday, February 24, 2017, at 7 p.m.

University Center

Loop River Room

(Note: New room is next to old one)

525 S. State Street, Chicago, IL

(Located between Congress Parkway and Harrison St.)

The Loop River Room is located on the second floor. After entering the lobby, go through the glass doors on your left for stair and elevator access to the area. Doors open at 6 p.m.

In the 1950s young Ken Spengler traveled to Milwaukee to ride and photograph the city’s remaining streetcar lines. By then only two classes of cars—the 800s and 900s—were still in operation and the streetcar routes over which they operated were rapidly disappearing. Ken recorded as much of this as he could, while he could, and he shares the results of his efforts with us tonight.

In addition, Ken will include photos of the Milwaukee system from earlier times, views of North Shore Line operation over Milwaukee streets, and scenes of the Lakeside Belt Line. In all, the viewer will have an excellent representation of everything still operating under trolley wire in Milwaukee during this decade. Join us for what will be a memorable and entertaining evening.
